Product description

If your dog suffers from heart failure, your veterinarian may prescribe Cardalis. When your dog suffers from heart failure, his heart is unable to pump blood adequately throughout the body. As a result, blood backs up into the lungs and fluid accumulates in the body (chest, abdomen), which further constricts both the heart and lungs, and prevents sufficient oxygen flow throughout the body. This may lead to typical symptoms like cough, reduced exercise tolerance, and reduced appetite. Cardalis is formulated with two active ingredients: benazepril hydrochloride and spironolactone. These ingredients work together to help keep blood vessels open, prevent thickening of blood vessel walls, reduce the stiffening of the heart muscle, and reduce the accumulation of fluid in the body. Cardalis Chewable Tablets for dogs are available in three different strengths: 20 mg/2.5 mg, 40 mg/5 mg, and 80 mg/10 mg. These tasty beef-flavored chewable tablets can either be mixed with a small amount of food offered to your dog just before the main meal, or with the meal itself.

Active ingredients

Cardalis 20/2.5:
20 mg Spironolactone
2.5 mg Benazepril HCl

Cardalis 40/5:
40 mg Spironolactone
5 mg Benazepril HCl

Cardalis 80/10:
80 mg Spironolactone
10 mg Benazepril HCl

Indications for use

Cardalis Chewable Tablets are indicated with concurrent therapy (e.g. furosemide, etc.) for the management of clinical signs of mild, moderate, or severe congestive heart failure in dogs due to atrioventricular valvular insufficiency (AVVI).

Administration and dosage

Cardalis administration should begin after pulmonary edema is stabilized. Cardalis should be administered orally once daily at a dose of 0.9 mg/lb (2 mg/kg) spironolactone and 0.11 mg/lb (0.25 mg/kg) benazepril hydrochloride, according to dog body weight using a suitable combination of whole and/or half tablets. All tablet strengths are scored and the calculated dosage according to dog’s weight should be to the nearest half-tablet increment. Cardalis should be administered with food.
